Kilburn Accident Officer Injured After Police Motorcycle And Car Crash

AN officer has been taken to hospital after his motorcycle collided with a police car on the Kilburn High Road this evening (Wednesday).

The crash happened just before 6.30pm at the junction with Shoot Up Hill.

Road closures were put in place, blocking traffic in both directions between Kilburn Station and Minster Road near The Mulberry House School. Police cordons were removed around an hour later.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “The officer has been taken to hospital as a precaution. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”

Images of the accident emerged on social media showing the man being shielded from public view by his colleagues.

The Kingsgate Community Association had largely relied on hiring out its building – the Kingsgate Community Centre in Kingsgate Road – but saw its revenue wiped out by the pandemic and is now filing for liquidation.

The nursery on the site will also remain closed.

Camden Council owns the building and said this evening that it was determined that it would be used for community use in the future.

In a statement, the Board of Directors thanked staff, particularly manager Marie Griffin who was described as having “exemplary levels of compassionate professionalism”.

“After assessing the position we sadly felt that the inherited operational and financial model of the charity is no longer sustainable,”  the board said.

“This arises because this inherited model relies too heavily on the income that is derived from the letting out of space in the community centre. The impact of the loss of this revenue during lockdown has been critical.”
